ACA athletes featured in major events from 100 metres to 42.2 km during the weekend of 14 & 15 November.
In the Battle of Cities, Round 1, held on Saturday at Mt Smart Stadium, Tama Toki, the national M19 200m champion, won the M19 sprint double with times of 11.02s over 100m and 22.44s in the 200m; and Breeanna Potter won the women's 3000m in 9m 48.93s.
North Shore City won the competition from Auckland (which includes ACA), and Manukau.
In the Speight’s West Coaster held the same day, James Kuegler slashed more than 30 minutes off the race record in the scenic road, hilly trail and coastal marathon distance race with his winning time of 4h 49m 47s. In the past two months, just-turned 22-year-old Kuegler has finished fourth in the Lydiard Legends marathon and fifth (in a personal best time of 2:37.53) in the Auckland Marathon.
At the finish line, he said that the key to his race was “being efficient throughout the race, enjoying the stunning scenery, and gritting my teeth on the big hills.”
