Winter Cross Country and Road Events

The Winter Cross Country and Road Season runs from April to October. There are a wide range of events at national, regional, club and schools levels that cater for participants of all ages and abilities. During the season, we also hold a number of fun ACA Club events, from our winter base at Cornwall Cricket Club, Cornwall Park.

Grand Prix Cross Country Series

Each season, Athletics Auckland holds a series of six Grand Prix cross country races around the city.  The competitive cross country season will once again kick off with the first Grand Prix event at Pukekohe on Saturday May 15.

HOW TO ENTER

The easiest way to enter at a discounted price is to sign up for all six Grand Prix events before the first race.  You only need to register once to compete in all or some of the events. Enter here.   Registrations close midnight Thursday 13th May. If you are doing individual event entries, you must enter each event separately.  These entry forms will be online approximately 1-2 weeks prior to the race. Junior Running Relays

Several Clubs around Auckland hold cross country relay events over the winter months for children aged under 16.  The relays comprise teams of four, boys or girls, with each child running 2km.  There is also usually a 2km fun run for children who aren't able to join a team.

The first relay event is being hosted by the Oratia Running Club, on Saturday May 8 at Konini Primary School, Glen Eden. The second relay event is being hosted by Glen Eden Harriers, on Saturday May 22 at Ceramco Park, Glen Eden. Click on the below image for more details.

If you have a child running with ACA who would like to join a team to take part in any of these relays, please get in touch with Rachel Moss, rachel.moss@halosport.co.nz or 021 613938.

NZ Road Relay Championships

Every year, the Club sends multiple teams to the New Zealand Road Relay Championships, this year being held near Christchurch on Saturday 2 October 2021.This is one of the highlights of ACA’s winter season. It’s the only time we travel and compete as a Club across all athletes from age 14 and up.

The relays are being held on the famous course along Banks Peninsula, from the Sign of the Takahe near Christchurch all the way to Akaroa. See the Relays Website for all the details.

We are actively seeking community trust grants to cover the bulk of the costs involved in the trip, with the goal to keep the cost to individual members at around $150-$200.  As well as competing athletes, we will need at least half a dozen or so parents or supporters to drive team vans – and have a great weekend with everyone else!

If you'd like to join an ACA team or find out more, please email aca.road.relays@gmail.com or contact Andrew Pirie, 027 5550275.
