Catching up with Jono Jackson

ACA Athletics caught up with Senior Men's runner Jono Jackson after his bronze medal at the NZ Cross Country Champs in Auckland. We asked him about his performance and training.

(1) How much training have you done to achieve this great result? Is there a training activity that is particularly working well for you?

Over the winter I always enjoy getting some decent mileage in and working on my strength which translates well to cross country racing. Running up heaps of hills and on the bounty of trails our country has on offer also helps me get ready for the muddy races.

(2) How is your running going this year? Has this win been a high spot?

I was hoping to back up my win in this event from last year with another win however fell down to the lower level of the podium (bronze). I had enjoyed an unbeaten streak of races up until the nationals, winning Auckland champs and North Island champs but unfortunately the South Islanders got the better of me on the day.

(3) What's next on your calendar?

We are going over to Europe in September to visit friends and family and while we are there I will be racing Berlin Marathon. The last 6 marathon world records have been run there so it is a fast course. As such I am hoping for a personal best. Whilst there, my fiance Charlotte (also an ACA member) will be racing in the World Triathlon Age Group Champs in Rotterdam.

(4) Do you enjoy being a part of ACA?

ACA is a great club to be a part of, filled with a bunch of nice people who really wish the best for you and support whatever running goals you may have, big or small. NZ Road Relay champs is always a highlight on the calendar and is a great chance to compete as a team which often brings out the best in people.
