ACA's Coen Anderson wins medal at NZ cross country champs

Congratulations to Coen Anderson who picked up the bronze medal in Under 13 Boys at the NZ Cross Country Champs. He ran 7.22 in the 2km distance just behind Liam Davis (Cambridge) and winner Jonah Seeds (Trentham).

We caught up with Coen and put some questions to him about his achievement.

Did the NZ champs feel different to the other races that you have run this season?

Yes, because there were proper stands for the crowd to watch and we had tags with our names on, timers and a programme with names in, all the accessories.

Did you have a plan for how you would run the race?

Not really. I approached it as I normally would with a little sprint at the start and then pace myself, then sprint the finish.

How did you feel at the finish of the race and when you found out that you had come third?

I was pretty amazed because I really wanted a medal and I definitely didn’t expect to get in the top three.

Well done, Coen. Great result. Coen trains with Kerry Rodger in the Cornwall Park running group.
